About Barwidgee Lavender
John, Jo & Meg Freudenstein own and operate Barwidgee Lavender Farm. We moved to the area twelve years ago, buying 125 acres of totally unimproved land in the spectacular Happy Valley at Rosewhite.
We began by camping on weekends whilst building the "shed" that then became home for three years until the 100 year old house was relocated and renovated. The lavender & olive plantings have been gradually developed with the propagating, planting, harvesting and then distilling the essential oil and pressing the extra virgin olive oil.
The first varieties planted in 2001, have now reached their maturity and are producing exceptional oil. The Alpine Region's climate is particularly suited to lavender & olive oil, with extremely cold winters and hot dry summer temperatures.
The next stage of our venture was the opening of a licensed cafe and gift shop to showcase our unique range of aromatherapy skin & body care products.
The Gatehouse luxury accommodation has been converted from the licensed cafe and gift shop, which was operated successfully for seven years. The transformation into stylish self contained accommodation has been very successful and we look forward to your stay with us. Our stylish retreat boasts stunning views, open plan living and luxurious comfort. With vaulted ceilings throughout and timber and corrugated iron a feature. Large windows capture the views and wide verandahs are ideal for outdoor entertaining.
We also have a 'shed shop' open to our guests, stocked with our unique range of organic lavender, olive oil and farm produce. Based amidst our farm, staying with us offers privacy, space and spectacular views, with the added interest and activity of a working farm.
